FIELD GUIDE / SALES SYSTEMS

Do you actually need a CRM?

Before paying for another subscription, work out whether a customer relationship management system solves a real problem in your business.

Editorial note: This is an independent educational guide. We have not included affiliate links or claimed hands-on product testing. Future affiliate relationships will be disclosed.

Five questions to ask

  1. Are leads or customer follow-ups being missed?
  2. Do multiple people need access to the same customer history?
  3. Are you spending significant time updating spreadsheets manually?
  4. Can you measure which sales opportunities are moving forward?
  5. Would better follow-up plausibly recover enough sales to justify the cost?

What to compare

Look at total monthly cost, user limits, onboarding effort, integrations, automation features, reporting, data portability, and the time your team will spend maintaining the system.

Run the numbers

Estimate hours saved and potential additional monthly profit with the free Proformer ROI calculator. A CRM may be worthwhile even with no additional sales if it materially reduces administrative time; conversely, a free tool may be sufficient for a very small operation.

Where we go next

We plan to add detailed side-by-side CRM comparisons after verifying features, pricing, affiliate terms, and suitability for different business sizes. No ranking or endorsement is implied here.
